Tourism Fiji launched a ‘Vinaka’ video to thank the people of Fiji for their support of its domestic tourism campaign, “Love Our Locals Fiji”.
Featuring the Prime Minister, Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama, the Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport, Hon. Faiyaz Siddiq Koya, Tourism Fiji Chairman, Andre Viljoen, and other people in the tourism industry, the video is a message of gratitude.
Since launching on 5 June this year, the “Love Our Locals Fiji” campaign has gained momentum with close to 11,000 members on Facebook and over 150 industry partners participating with their local rates and specials.
“A campaign supported by locals for locals – this campaign truly captures the essence of Fiji’s Bula Spirit. We have seen resorts reopening to the domestic market and Fijians being re-hired. As we approach our nation’s 50th year of Independence, we thank Fijians for their support and encourage their patriotism by rediscovering our beautiful nation,” Hon. Faiyaz Siddiq Koya said.
Tourism Fiji Director of Marketing, Emma Campbell said the impact of the global pandemic has meant that our domestic tourism market is more important than ever.
Ms Campbell said, “We have been amazed by the response to the campaign and are delighted to see the people who have the means to travel are really enjoying exploring and travelling lots. We are seeing some resorts booked out on weekends and a real focus on supporting local. We thank the people of Fiji for loving their local tourism industry, and we thank the tourism industry for loving their local visitors.”
In celebration of Fiji Day on October 10, the Love Our Locals Fiji team had a booth at the Fiji Festival held at Thurston Gardens in Suva. Aimed at boosting awareness on the campaign, over 100 new members signup to the Facebook group at the Fiji Festival as they played games and competitions to win goodie bags and vouchers to spend at the event.
