SPTO at Solomon Islands Transport Symposium

Elizabeth Ragimana, Research and Statistics Manager at SPTO attended the Solomon Islands Transport Symposium held in Honiara, Solomon Islands on May 30-31.

The Symposium was significant for SPTO because transportation is essential for the tourism sector.

Tourism as  a cross cutting sector is a development tool and an economic driver can assist address Solomon Islands challenges of connectivity, efficiency and market accessibility, Tourism  provides other  benefits such as boosting local food production and consumption, generating revenue, employment and the engagement of local farmers, transport agents and the communities at large.

Air transportation carried about 27,866 visitors to Solomon Islands in 2018, a solid 8.4% increase from 25,709 in 2017 whilst cruise transportation accomodated 4,984 in 2018).
