Nemani Tebana is the Senior Tourism Officer in the Research and Statistics Unit of Tourism Authority of Kiribati (TAK). He oversees the collection and compilation of tourism related data such as annual inventory on accommodation, tourism employee numbers and visitor arrival figures.
Nemani spent a weeklong internship with SPTO this last week under the SPTO and Pacific Trade Invest (Australia) Internship Programme and described his internship as educational, “I focused my time at SPTO on Research and Statistics spending four days with the Research team and a day with the Marketing team.
“The week at SPTO allowed me to gain a deeper insight into data analysis. I learnt how to forecast data and the methodologies and to estimate Tourism’s contribution to GDP. I also learnt the purpose and importance of infographics in publications and the use of social media in our work- an area we need to work on more,” said Nemani.
At the end of the week, Nemani presented what he had learnt and also on the status of tourism in Kiribati, “The internship program has been very useful to me and the Kiribati office. The SPTO staff are very knowledgeable and experienced in their various fields and were willing to share their knowledge with the interns in a very conducive learning environment.
Nemani left for Australia on the weekend for a six week attachment with PTI. The SPTO and PTI and is open to all staff of SPTO member countries, specifically those in Tourism Ministries and National Tourism Officers.
