The South Pacific Tourism Organisation has announced the appointment of Ms. Daisy Park also known as Jae-A Park as the organization’s market representative in Korea. This is in line with the implementation of the Pacific Promotion Program for Trade, Investment & Tourism (PPTT), which came into effect early this year.
“We are delighted to make this appointment as Daisy has vast experience and has in depth knowledge of the Pacific and Korean market. While based in Seoul, Korea, she held various roles in the past 17 years including Country manager for Tourism Fiji and Samoa Tourism Authority. She also worked for the Fiji Honorary Consulate,” said SPTO Chief Executive Officer, Chris Cocker.
Ms. Park will be the SPTO lead for the Tourism component of the PPTT which has been allocated USD $500,000, of the overall USD $1,000,000 over 2019-2020, and which also includes a Trade and Investment facilitation overseen by the Forum Secretariat.
“The PPTT will promote trade, investment and tourism between Korea and Pacific Island Countries in terms of job creation, economic development, including trade fairs, trade missions and market promotion. Thus, I urge the SPTO member countries interested in developing the Korean market to make use of this great opportunity and work closely with Daisy. On behalf of SPTO, I would like to thank the Government and people of Korea for the PPTT” said Mr. Cocker.
Ms. Park attended the recent South Pacific Tourism Exchange held in Auckland, New Zealand, with a delegation from the Republic of Korea led by Mr. Lee Sang-ryol, Deputy Director-General for South Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the event, Mr. Lee Sang-ryol said the Republic of Korea was pleased to support regional tourism as it has great potential in the context of economic development, “For the next two years, SPTO, my Government’s trusted partner, will undertake a number of activities under a well-designed action plan and in close consultation with the Korean government,”.
“Under this project, with the participation of travel agencies, airlines and media, tourism will be promoted on-line with travel writers, bloggers and journalists as well as offline via seminars and tourism exhibitions. Tourism guide-books and TV documentary programs will also be provided to the Korean public,” said Mr. Lee Sang-ryol.
Ms. Park has qualifications in Public Relations and Advertising and a Masters in International Relations and Area Studies from the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University. She is also a columnist for a range of news media including Chosun Daily, Mail Economic News, Korea Economic News, CEO Economics, Economy Journal, The Korea Times and the Tour De Monde.
Established in 1983 as the Tourism Council of the South Pacific, the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) is the mandated organisation representing Tourism in the region. Its 20 Government members are American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna and the People’s Republic of China.
