The 6th South Pacific Tourism Exchange gets underway in Auckland, New Zealand on May 9-10 and has attracted 66 international buyers from 14 countries and 94 sellers from 17 Pacific Island countries.
The sellers comprise 77 Pacific Island tourism companies and 17 national tourism offices which is an increase of 88% from 2018, due largely to the inclusion of 24 New Zealand Maori tourism businesses. A notable inclusion is Wallis & Futuna which joined SPTO’s membership in October 2018.
The buyers are from Australia, Austria, China, Fiji, Germany, India, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, USA and Vanuatu. An increase of 13.5% from 2018 but with notably less participation from the Europe and Asia markets.
For the first time, SPTO is collaborating with New Zealand Maori Tourism which is a major sponsor of the SPTE. NZ Maori Tourism and ATEED are hosting a welcome function and dinner and NZ Maori Tourism the lunches over the two days.
Other sponsors include Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, South Pacific Pocket Guide, Vanuatu Tourism Office, Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority and InnQuest Australia.
