The new side of Samoa has been showcased to the trade this week as the country’s tourism roadshow has made its way around four centres in the North Island.
Leituala Joe Chan Ting, the marketing manager for Samoa Tourism, says that while New Zealanders still see the
destination as a place to relax and enjoy the culture, they are also looking for niche experiences and adventures.
Chan Ting says the trade can take advantage of this as well as the competitive airfares that have entered the market since Samoa Airways started flying 10 months ago. New hotels and enhancements to existing properties have further added to the appeal.
‘One of the niche areas we are pushing is the wedding market and Weddings in Samoa is part of our Auckland
event (held last night). The surf market too is one that is growing and more New Zealanders are enjoying the waves, particularly in the southeast,’ he says. Chan Ting says operators are now offering fishing, biking and hiking experiences.
The Samoa Roadshow visited Wellington, Tauranga and Hamilton, finishing in Auckland. It attracted a total of nearly 300 agents over the four days.
