The Samoa Business Network’s (SBN) fifth anniversary will be marked by the launch of the inaugural SBN Business Awards this weekend.
Slated for Saturday 29 September at the Novotel Auckland Airport, the premium event recognises the achievements of Samoa’s top businesses based in New Zealand, Samoa and Australia.
With some of Samoa’s top entrepreneurs amongst the finalists the event looks to be one of the hottest tickets in town!
The overwhelming positive response from Samoa’s business community had organisers receiving 58 entries for the Awards. And the high demand for tickets also prompted a venue switch from the Naumi Hotel in Mangere to a bigger venue at Novotel Auckland Airport.
The awards’ popularity has highlighted an increasing depth of Samoan businesses across a range of sectors with a mix of established and newer companies in the three countries.
Laura Keil-Hall the Chairperson and Founder of the SBN New Zealand and Afamasaga Jackie Curry announced the finalists at the end of August.
Each of the nine awards has three finalists with Samoa based businesses at four. The categories range from small businesses to construction/trades, hospitality and professional services and excellence in innovation.
Four independent judges were called in to make the tough call of whittling back entries to the top finalists. Even the public was encouraged to get on board and choose their favourite business via an online voting contest for the ‘People’s Choice Award – Favourite Business’. The voting started on 1 September for the 13 businesses competing with the winner being announced on awards night.
The Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Start-Up of the Year, the Samoan based Business of the Year and Business Women of the Year Awards will also be categories to watch.
The keynote speaker is ex-NRL and New Zealand Rugby League representative Sione Faumuina who has also established his reputation as a successful motivational, coach, author, trainer and travels throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The sit-down corporate dinner will host other speakers from the Samoan and New Zealand business communities.
