Raffe Hotels & Resorts bans plastic straws at all properties

Raffe Hotels and Resorts is proud to announce that it will be banning plastic straws across all their properties on Fiji Day, 10 October 2018. Raffe Hotels & Resorts owns and manages three iconic properties in Fiji, Plantation Island Resort, Lomani Island Resort and Fiji Gateway Hotel (previously Raffles Gateway Hotel).

All three properties in the group will be replacing plastic straws with paper straws on the 10th of October 2018 and will only offer straws to guests on a request basis. Guests at all three properties will be encouraged to “Say no to straws” and avoid straw use where possible. Raffe Hotels & Resorts is committed to not only banning plastic straws, but minimising straw use altogether.

“We are incredibly proud of this upcoming milestone” says Akshay Singh, Director of Sales, Marketing and Strategic Development for Raffe Hotels & Resorts. “We can no longer stand on the side lines and watch the destruction of our oceans, we are determined to become leaders in the fight against single use plastics. By banning the use of plastic straws at our Resorts, we are demonstrating our corporate responsibility to the region and the oceans we rely so heavily on.”

Plantation Island Resort banned all plastic shopping bags at the Resort in October 2017 and provided all guests and staff with re-usable shopping bags to use during their time on Malolo Lailai Island. Raffe Hotels & Resorts looks forward to announcing more environmental protection milestones in 2018 and 2019.
