Behind Foods Pacific Limited is local Fijian businessman Mr Arvind Kant Patel, affectionately known as George in the industry.
Foods Pacific Group is one of Fiji’s largest family-owned private companies. Established in 1980, it has gone from strength to strength, achieving success in both domestic and international markets. The Foods Pacific Group includes Tri-Pacific Marine, which specialises in quality tuna processing and tuna food products; Pacific Feeds, which is Fiji’s leading animal feed company, and Taste of India, which provides restaurant-quality Indian dishes designed for busy consumers who appreciate good quality natural products, but do not have the time to prepare complicated authentic recipes from scratch.
Foods Pacific Limited’s success story started with corned meat processing and canning, which has been the backbone of the company for many years.
Today, it produces many different food lines including ready-to-eat products, meals, sauces, spices, yoghurts and food service products.
The group has launched several international food brands that retail in the mainstream markets of Australia, Asia, the Pacific, North America and northern Europe. Its Fiji-based operation is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for processing and packaging export products.
Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia has worked with Foods Pacific Limited since 2010, seeing firsthand its hard work and commitment to enter the Australian market.
“Export success doesn’t happen overnight. I don’t think people realise, but before a product even hits the shelf there has been a huge investment from both the exporter and the importer/distributor,” said Jeremy Grennell, General Manager – Exports, PTI Australia.
“Seeing the commitment and diligence of Foods Pacific Limited to developing their export market in Australia and internationally has been inspiring.
“Developing a business relationship takes time; preparation is key with any market to ensure success.”
Food Pacific Limited is one of eight Pacific businesses selected to be part of PTI Australia’s Pacific Showcase at Fine Foods Australia in September, Food Pacific Limited will use the opportunity to promote its Taste of India brand, which is manufactured in Fiji.
The flavours and culture of India have a strong connection with Fiji because over 35 per cent of Fiji’s citizens identify as Fijian Indians. Many are descended from Indians who were brought to the islands in the late 1800’s by Fiji’s British colonial rulers to work in Fiji’s sugar cane plantations.
Born in Fiji and of Indian decent George was inspired by his heritage, to produce the Taste of India range includes ready-to-eat meals, cooking sauces, vegetarian dishes, dhals and cooking pastes. All Taste of India products are manufactured in Fiji from authentic recipes using only the finest natural ingredients, including Fiji’s naturally wild-growing ginger.
Sam Malankar, Export Sales Manager, Foods Pacific Limited said being part of PTI Australia’s Pacific Showcase will help them to further develop relationships and awareness in the Australian market.
“The support we have had from PTI Australia has been phenomenal. Trade shows of these magnitude where over 5,000 buyers and distributors are walking through the doors each day provide a great platform to get exposure to an international market. We’ve gotten some great leads through being part of PTI Australia’s showcase and we are excited to see what the future holds.”
