Niue Vanilla makes habit of turning up at most surprising of places!

Being featured at the Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand Pacific Island booth at the Auckland Food Show is not just about displaying products, selling them and finding distributors and retailers for them for sale in New Zealand.

When you have a quality ingredient to offer that is hard to come by, doors open wide from the most surprising quarters.

Ask Stanley Kalauni of Niue Vanilla.

Three years ago, a visit by a specialist retailer to the Niue Vanilla stand at the PTI NZ booth at the show, resulted in the quality product distributed across the length of New Zealand: Niue Vanilla became the first Pacific Island food product to be stocked in all Trade Aid stores.

Trade Aid CEO Geoff White firmed up the agreement with Mr Kalauni during the 2016 Auckland Food Show at the PTI Pacific Hub stand. “Niue Vanilla products are now in 21 Trade Aid stores across the country,” Mr Kalauni told Pacific Periscope at this year’s Auckland Food Show last week.

Niue Vanilla might be on a lot of retail shelves now. But what one might not realise is that the products are now inside a growing range of other products across several categories.

“Many of these are because of our participation at the PTI NZ booth at the Auckland Food Show, which has given us the opportunity to mingle with other exhibitors and food and beverage companies at the show.”

Last year Mr Kalauni met up with leading New Zealand beverage producer Villa Italia Ltd, whose Sovrano Limoncello and other products are well known and always a big draw at their stand at the Food Show.

Villa Italia’s Andrea Loggia and Mr Kalauni hit it off well and the beverage maker began to use Niue Vanilla products in some of his beverages.

“It’s excellent,” Mr Loggia told Pacific Periscope at the show. “I am so glad we met here last year.” The Niue Vanilla stand proudly displayed the beverages at its stand, with curious questions from visitors – great publicity for both Niue Vanilla and Limoncello!

For Niue Vanilla, it hasn’t just stopped with Limoncello. Leading New Zealand cake and confectionery chain Gateau House has also begun using Niue Vanilla, Mr Kalauni revealed. So is a beverage maker experimenting on a new organic product with Niue Vanilla.

Niue Vanilla products are also being travelled by a virgin coconut oil manufacturer, a former PTI NZ’s Auckland Food Show participant, to create a new vanilla scented coconut oil product.

Other product categories have been opening up, too, thanks to co-participants at the food shows and visitors who manufacture other products that are not in the food and beverage category.

“There’s someone who’s using Niue Vanilla in skincare products and has placed an order from us,” Mr Kalauni said.

Mr Kalauni is pleased with his company’s participation at the show. “This year has been exceptional,” he said. “We’ve had so many repeat customers and visitors. They tend to drag new customers, it’s been awesome.”

There’s no telling in which product Niue Vanilla will turn up next!
