Miss Pacific Islands to attend LA Travel Show as Pacific Tourism Ambassador

Miss Pacific Islands 2018-2019, Leoshina Kariha from Papua New Guinea will carry out her first engagement as the South Pacific Tourism Organisation’s Pacific Tourism Ambassador at the Los Angeles Travel Show in the United States this weekend.

The LA Travel & Adventure show is one of USA’s most important travel events for marketers wishing to reach consumers and travel agents. This year, the Pacific Islands will be represented at the show by tourism marketers from American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Fiji Airways.

As Miss Pacific Islands, Miss Kariha also takes on the role of Ambassador advocating for sustainable tourism at regional and international tourism fora.  SPTO Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Cocker welcomed Ms Kariha into her new role.

“We are pleased that Miss Kariha will be taking on this vital role that will highlight our Pacific culture and people and also empower her as a young Pacific woman,” said Mr. Cocker. “Traditionally the Miss Pacific Islands is our ambassador for the duration of her reign and we will work with Miss Kariha and her team to make certain that she has a platform to also promote her messages of empowering women, culture tourism,  sustainable development which also resonate with our stakeholders in the region.”

Ms. Kariha’s next major engagement as Pacific Tourism Ambassador is at the South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE) in New Zealand in May. SPTE 2019 will be held at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Auckland, New Zealand from the 9th and 10th May. This event will bring together over 200 people from tourism industry businesses across the Pacific and travel agents from all over the world. SPTE is SPTO’s premier tourism event for the Pacific Islands.

The theme for the SPTE 2019 is “Sustainable Tourism Development through people to people connectivity”.
