Enuamanu School in the beautiful island of Atiu needs your help. They are appealing to the tourism industry for assistance with their cookery equipment for their home economics classes. Please support our young Cook Islanders to enable them to pursue careers in the cuisine industry. These students could potentially be working for your hotel, restaurant or café in the future. Earlier this year Enuamanu School, in partnership with CITTI, offered their year 11 students NCEA Level 1 Cookery classes as part of an initiative to increase the number of options for students to study Trade subjects.

With Hospitality and Tourism playing such a leading role in the Cook Island’s economy and increased opportunities for Tertiary study and employment on Rarotonga this will be an opportunity for students to be exposed to a wide range of career pathways available in the industry, Cookery being one of them. By offering some of the entry level subjects this will help to prepare Pa Enua (outer island) students to gain the prerequisite skills required for further study or employment in the Cook Islands. The hospitality tutor at Enuamanu is appealing for assistance from the tourism industry to help the students in Atiu reach their goal.

To be able to teach these subjects certain requirements have to be met. A qualified tutor living on the island has been identified and the former home economics room has been upgraded with improvements made to water supply and a gift of four new gas stoves. Some basic equipment has been provided to get started with very limited funds. With better equipment in place, the level and standards will be improved including a higher range of subjects to offer.

We are appealing to the tourism industry or related businesses on Rarotonga if you would consider donating some of the following items on their wish list below:

BAKEWARE: to suit a standard 4 burner Chef domestic oven. Baking dishes/trays Scone trays, Bread and cake tins, Muffin tins Pie dishes, flan tins Spring form cake tins

COOKWARE: Small saucepans with lids if possible Frypans – non stick or pressed metal

KITCHEN UTENSILS : Knives, Steels, Sharpening stone Bowls Spatulas Scrapers Slotted spoons Strainers Peelers Tongs Citrus press

TABLEWARE: Basically anything we can use to teach students how to set a table and use the appropriate tableware/glassware etc for food service and the correct plate to use in the kitchen. Serviettes Dinner Plates Entrée Plates Side Plates Bowls Glassware Water jugs/carafes Serving dishes Serving spoons Tongs Cutlery

CLEANING EQUIPMENT: Mop and bucket Cleaning products Dish washing detergent Sanitizer Dishcloths Tea towels Food handling gloves Aprons Skull caps Food storage containers eg: buckets with lids, large jars etc.
