Inspired by the incredible display of Vanuatu’s unparalleled beauty and culture as well as the influential discussions presented at the Sustainable Islands Tourism Conference, the Directors of Tourism from Vanuatu, Palau, the Cook Islands, drafted the Statement of Intent for a collaboration in sustainable tourism.
Triem Tay is a village in the island of Cam Kim, surrounded by the river Thu Bo, three kilometres away from World’s Heritage town Hoi An, Vietnam. The location of Triem Tay is prone to floods during rainy season (water can reach up to 3 meters), washing away entire ecosystems and crops, dramatically increasing the riverbank erosion and forcing inland migration of local residents.
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Director for the Asia Pacific, Professor Mihee Kang and the GSTC trainer for Vanuatu Dr Cherise Addinsall has conducted a 3-day GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program and GSTC Independent Auditor Training with guest speakers Mr Fredrick Maclean (former General Manager of the Havannah Resort Vanuatu) and Ms Anjali Nelson from the Nakau Programme who is developing mechanisms for investments in Vanuatu’s conservation areas.
