On April 17, 2019 American Samoa celebrates 119 years of being a US Territory!
A number of festivities have been planned for the momentous occasion including a Business Fair starting on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Suigaula Beach Park from 12pm – 5pm and will run through to Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
There will be games, food booths, live entertainment, and performances by local schools, churches, and ethnic communities.
The much anticipated Fautasi Races (long boat) will be held on April 13, 2019, followed by a Family Fun Day and Fireworks Show at Suigaula Beach Park.
A church service is scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Governor H. Rex Lee Auditorium at 3pm to memorialize this historic event and bless our long & prosperous relationship with the United States.
To close off the Flag Day celebrations, on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the Veterans Memorial Stadium, an official ceremony will be held to commemorate our 119 years since the American Flag was first raised in Tutuila, making American Samoa a protectorate of the United States.
Special remarks will be given by Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga, while the reading of the proclamation will be done by Ms. D’Andre Si’imalevai, Senior Class President of Manu’a High School and Ms. Sophie Malama Young, NHS President of South Pacific Academy.
As in past years, the celebration will be filled with traditional performances.
This year’s entertainment lineup will be local high schools – Leone, Samoana, and Tafuna; with a final performance by visiting guests from the village of Saleaumua from neighboring Samoa.
